It is just 8am when I went into Foodland in Naracoorte. I need just a few Bananas, a small block of cheese and a cucumber. I still have some cracker left so that will be a great treat with the cheese and the cucumber.
Backroad to Bordertown
Farmland as far as you can see
My way took me a bit to the east that morning. I didn’t want to stay on this busy highway. There is a good chance to get on the backroads towards Bordertown. My bike was a bit heavy, but I need always 10 kilometres to get to a reasonable performance. Around 10am I reached Frances, a nice little country town. For my surprise – there was a general store. I love these general stores on the country side; these businesses have so much character. I bought some ice cream, had a chat with the lady behind the counter and with the postie outside. He just arrived to pick up some parcels.

Short stop in Bordertown
There was not much traffic at all. I had a short break for lunch and arrived at Bordertown just around 3pm. I was very fit and energetic, didn’t feel like setting up a tent at the caravan park. After a short look around I filled up my water bottles at the public toilet and went back on the road. I took the Senior Road northbound to bypass the busy Dukes Highway.
Future style clock in Bordertown
I was determined to cycle into the sunset and set up my camp wherever it would be suitable. The wind picked up speed and pushed me to the north, hey that is fun! I could not believe it but I reached the Comet Bore Camp Area which is around 70 kilometres north of Bordertown. There was nobody, everything didn’t look very inviting. Anyway I disappeared into the scrub and had a very good sleep after 168 kilometres of cycling.

Wake up with the birds
I usually wake up with the birds. It is amazing how your body gets adapted to that. That is such a great feeling to get woken up by the singing of the birds. But when you have galahs around you might call it noise. My breakfast was as usual, muesli and bananas and of course I had still some of my cracker.
Nice treat in the morning....
....and a ggod mug of Milo
Pinnaroo - what a nice little place
Day 16 was an easy run to Pinnaroo. There were around 60 kilometres to cycle. The wind came still from the south, so that means tailwind again. I arrived at lunchtime and had a good chance to look around Pinnaroo. What a nice little place it is. Everything is well maintained and tidy. Railway Terrace is the main street. You find most of the shops including the supermarket and the well known Bakery Café. Opposite is a beautiful park and the Mallee Tourist and Heritage Centre. After all that riding I spoiled myself with plenty of ice-cream….
